The Neuropsychologist/ Clinical Psychologist provides and coordinates an effective, high quality clinical neuropsychological service to community dwelling patient in the Sutherland local government area and to The Sutherland Hospital inpatients based on established neuropsychogical professional standards and SESLHD

  • Develop, implement and evaluate neuropsychological assessments for patients using recognised standards and guidelines.
  • Adopt existing/established clinical guidelines and develop evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for use with patients.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of assessment, diagnosis and intervention is placed in medical records in accordance with required guidelines and policies.
  • Ensure communication in writing with referring agent and general practitioner
  • Attend patient care meetings/case conferences as required
  • Obtain client/carer consent prior to undertaking assessment
  • Understand the importance of, and maintain, patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide education to carers/clients on dementia and other neuropsychological conditions
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical practice, as well as assist in the development of ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
  • Maintain clinical competencies and expertise through attendance at relevant professional development and supervision activities.
  • Provision of supervision to students, registrars and colleagues, as required

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

1. Accredited Masters Degree or higher in Clinical Neuropsychology or Clinical Psychology and current full registration with AHPRA as a psychologist with endorsement or working towards endorsement in clinical neuropsychology or clinical psychology

2. Demonstrated sound clinical knowledge of neurological diseases of older persons, clients with impaired capacity and knowledge of legislation applicable to individuals with such impairments

3. Experience in the neuropsychological assessment of older adults, interpretation of psychometric data and provision of neuropsychological assessment reports

4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, organisational skills and time management skills.

5. Demonstrate experience in communicating findings of assessments to referrers' multi-disciplinary teams, and to provide feedback to consumers.

6. Ability to work independently, and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

7. Demonstrate organisational skills to prioritise clinical and administrative, and possibly teaching and research work load.
