An exciting opportunity exists to join our Management team in our Works Department based in Tumut.

Primary Purpose

Diagnose, improve and guide the work of the Construction & Maintenance teams and collaborate as a member of the Management Team in delivering the council’s Operational Plan.

Key components of this position will include:

  • Coordinate work plans to meet community needs and organisational priorities now and into the future.
  • Monitor, review and report on goals and performance measures that link community needs and organisational priorities to service delivery.
  • Coordinate financial, human and physical resources to enable service delivery.
  • Deliver the services of the portfolio in accordance with legislation, adopted strategies and plans to meet community needs and organisational priorities.
  • Guide the portfolio’s contribution and performance to enhance service quality, accessibility and responsiveness.
  • Inform and advise the infrastructure and assets leadership on the strategic planning of the council’s works program to ensure agreed service levels are maintained.
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity.
  • Participate in Councils After Hours and On Call requirements.

Do you have the following skills and experience?

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate IV qualification in Frontline Management, or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through experience.
  • Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience in road maintenance principles and practices and maintenance contract requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply asset management principles and practices in relation to inspections, intervention levels and maintenance actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement a works program through the effective mobilisation and supervision of employees and resources across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach and support staff to achieve work targets and performance objectives.
  • Current Class C drivers’ licence.
  • Demonstrated ability to use and understand field data collection systems.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous operational experience in State Road Authority maintenance contracts.
  • Formal education in management and/or leadership.

Salary will be paid in accordance with the Snowy Valleys Council Salary System at Grade 8 which ranges from $2,634.37 per fortnight (gross) to $2,965.00 per fortnight (gross) dependant on skills, qualifications and experience plus 9.5% superannuation and allowances.
