The Legal Practice Board (Board) is seeking to appoint a Legal Officer to join our busy and friendly team in the CBD.

The Board is established under the Legal Profession Act and has statutory responsibility for the regulation of legal practice in Western Australia, including the granting and renewal of local practising certificates, and the discipline of legal practitioners through the Legal Profession Complaints Committee.

The position available is Legal Officer, Full Time, Fixed Term ( months), with opportunity for extension or conversion to permanency.

This is a key position at the Board, in a small team providing high legal advice for all aspects of the Board’s activities and executive and legal support services to the Executive Director, Manager: Legal & Operations, Deputy Executive Director, and the Board.

The successful applicant will be an experienced practitioner with excellent management skills, highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and good organisational skills.

The successful applicant will conduct legal and general research; prepare reports and submissions; appear in courts and tribunals, and provide legal advice to the Legal Practice Board.

In This Role You Would Be Required To
  • Plan and conduct research into legal and administrative matters;
  • Analyse legislative and regulatory issues;
  • Appear in Courts and Tribunals;
  • Assist counsel as required and support inquiries and hearings;
  • Prepare submissions, advices and reports;
  • Attend committee meetings as required;
  • Assist in the development of policy and procedure;
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a small team with internal and external stakeholders.
The successful applicant will be a legal practitioner with a minimum of years post admission experience eligible to hold a local practising certificate with well developed research, analytical and problem solving skills, litigation experience, experience in matters of a regulatory nature, legal and other general research and the ability to prepare a range of documentation again with a regulatory background.

Starting salary is $,. per annum plus .% superannuation.
