Large enterprise organisation based in Darwin delivering complex, high value, and / or high-risk ICT programs and multi-year digital transformation initiatives have a requirement for a Systems Integration Lead to support integrations from an enterprise-wide client management system to numerous business information systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design, development and testing of the systems-to-system interfaces, data flows, APIs, and integration middleware.

  • Work with the application architect, functional leads and build lead to create a high-level design of an end-to-end integration solution by: defining the flow of data between the applications that must be integrated, drafting a data object model that provides a common structure for mapping the data between the applications.

  • Analysis and design of integrations between the Client Management System (CARE system) and numerous business information systems through an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) based on the organisation's Integration Standards and Guidelines and aligned with program integration strategy.

  • Participate in Application Design sessions with the interfacing application teams to ensure cross-team communication and collaboration.

  • Validate that the integration solution and integration architecture designs utilize the integration architecture components appropriately.


  • Work with relevant project, business and vendor stakeholders within the program and other projects in defining and documenting interface messaging specifications and design in alignment with documented integration architecture.

  • Provide integration design services and review vendor deliverables for alignment with Solution Architecture and Interface Specifications Guidelines.

  • Define integration and messaging flows for various legacy, retained and future systems being procured with inputs and outputs.

  • Work with vendors and key stakeholders in implementing the ESB based interfaces.

  • Analyse integration architecture and design risks and issues, and provide hands-on support and expert guidance relating to integration design.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work with multiple project stakeholders (technical and business) to gather and document detailed integration business requirements via workshops and working groups and formulate compatible integration designs.

  • Experience implementing enterprise integration architectures and designing integration solutions.

  • Ability to analyse large volumes of messages in order to validate business rules based on the agreed detailed business requirements identified during workshops with business and operational stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead integration design activities and documentation.

  • Ability to develop and provide input into the design, planning and management of data conversion processes.

  • Ability to proactively identify and communicate process improvement opportunities related to information flows, processes and standards to be considered in the design of future state integration solutions.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience (at least 5 years) in an integration design or architect role on complex, large scale, multi system message based integration projects, including:

o analysing interface specifications and integration business rules

o designing and documenting message specifications

o conducting analysis of messages using a range of software tools to reverse engineer and or validate existing interfaces and data flows

o developing source-to-target data maps (code tables and transaction tables)

o expert level skills with architecture drawing tools such as MS Visio

o demonstrated experience and skills in producing accurate, complete and concise documentation.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Understanding of enterprise integration patterns.

  • Ability to define and communicate the “big picture” in terms of the overall integration solution (both functional and technical components) and break it down into smaller manageable work units.

  • Familiar with data modelling, user experience best practices.

  • Experience in providing operational support for ESB based integration.

  • Experience managing other staff to produce required deliverables within defined timelines.

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Experience working in either children services, social services, health, or education sector.
