Your Opportunity

Katherine Sobering Up Shelter (Yarrlalah) provides overnight accommodation to men and women over 18, assessed as under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and delivered to the shelter by NT Police or Night Patrol.

The Recovery Support Facilitator works closely with individuals and other service organisations to identify pathways towards recovery and resilience for those with AOD substance misuse issues. This role will address underlying problems such as health, housing, legal and financial issues and develop and deliver a holistic and tailored program for participants; including educational, life skills and cultural/community streams. The aim is to build participant skills and resilience to better manage their AOD issues, any mental health issues, improve relationships and increase social, educational and community participation.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Work with the participant to create a tailored holistic and strength based individual recovery plan.
  • Provide case management sessions (formal and informal) with participants and review progression against Individual Recovery Plans.
  • Assist clients to access other community services and accompany participants to appointments when required.
  • Record accurate case notes and assist the Program Manager to complete reports

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Community Services, Social Work, or other human services related field with a focus on Alcohol and other Drugs) or other appropriate qualification
  • Demonstrated experience working with participants with Alcohol and Other Drug addictions and mental health issues.
  • Experience working with the indigenous community and an understanding of the issues faced by Indigenous people

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
