The Barring Djinang VET/TAFE graduate program places graduates with a Certificate III or higher in jobs across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. This program creates a new pathway to public sector careers for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander vocational graduates.

Position Title
Assistant HR Officer
Role Description
The Assistant HR Officer undertakes a variety of personnel related administrative duties including ensuring smooth communication and prompt resolution of all queries. The Assistant HR Officer also supports HR Systems and assists in coordinating HR policies, processes and relevant documents.
Customer Service and HR Services Function
• Assist with day to day operations of the HR & Volunteer functions and duties.
• Compile and accurately update employee records appropriately (in electronic and/or hard-copy format).
• Process documentation and prepare basic reports relating to Human Resources activities (including staffing, recruitment, training, performance evaluations).
• Process and respond efficiently to employee requests regarding human resources issues, rules, and regulations.
• Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant data (absences, bonus, leaves, etc) as required.
• Receive and record staff complaints and liaise with appropriate HR staff to handle complaints effectively.
• Assist Hiring Managers to coordinate communication with recruitment candidates and schedule interviews as required.
• Provide initial orientation to newly hired employees as required.
• Assist with the maintenance and support of the HR Information Systems.
Volunteer
• Answer volunteering inquiries from website, phone and face to face in a timely and professional manner.
• Undertake CrimChecks and WWCC for all new volunteers and liaise with Volunteer Recruitment and Training Coordinator and relevant operational Managers to ensure all current volunteers have completed integrity checks.
• Provide database support services to the Volunteer and Community Development Unit including answering queries, providing information from Volgistics and other database support as directed by manager.
Existing Skills
• Strong Customer Service skills with ability to convince others to follow expected processes skills
• Ability to communicate complicated issues clearly and in a way able to understood by others
• Excellent computer skills including the ability to effectively use and create simple reports from HR information systems
• Demonstrated initiative and capacity to think and act independently
• Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism consistent with the AMES Australia Vision and Mission and demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous improvement principles
Additional comments or considerations
Certificate or Diploma qualification in HR, Business, Office Administration, Accounting, Commerce or similar field
2 year contract post graduate year.
