An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Grade 2 Speech Pathologist to join our Health Independence Program (HIP), Community Rehabilitation Service (CRS).

This is a part time (24 hours per week) maternity leave cover position.

Details of position: 

The Grade 2 Speech pathologist will work as a member of the HIP Community Rehabilitation Services Team; an interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals providing therapy to clients receiving home based and centre based services. The work will involve speech pathology assessment and management of clients at home, in the centre or in the community to optimise or maintain independence and functional capacity.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:

  • Strong clinical skills in speech pathology rehabilitation interventions, in particular with neurological clients.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, disability, adjustment issues and group dynamics for a diverse group of rehabilitation clients, their families and significant others.

  • Commitment to evidence based practice and ability to translate this into practice.

  • High level interpersonal skills that promote team development and engagement, and a proven ability to relate to people at all levels within an organisation.

  • High level written and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate with clients, their families, the clinical team and other hospital and community based health professionals.

  • Organisational ability in time and caseload management.

  • Ability to work autonomously and within an interdisciplinary team.

  • Ability to show initiative and flexibility.

  • Commitment to client focus and interdisciplinary approach to service provision.

  • Awareness of safe practice when working at the centre, in clients homes and in the community.

  • Understanding of the Health Independence Programs model within Austin Health

  • High level of experience and competent computer skills in MS Office applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of complex situations.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement or redesign.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.

  • Current drivers licence
