Irukandji is a bustling tourist attraction/interactive aquarium with a strong conservation focus. Located in the brand-new aquarium in Anna Bay, Port Stephens, Irukandji is a small family business and takes pride in its exceptional customer service and education.

Job Title: Causal Reception & Retail Clerk

Hours: Applicants must be available all weekends and school holidays. Applicants will be supporting 3 permanent staff in busy periods throughout the year.

Location: 2 Jessie Road, Anna Bay 2316

The Position

The position will involve (yet not limited to) customer service, reception, checking in guests, receiving phone calls, responding to emails, administration duties, maintaining databases, coffee making/basic Barista skills, taking bookings, managing retail and Cafe stock, general cleaning duties, managing groups and cash handling. The perfect applicant could being involvement in the marketing of the aquarium including liaison with local businesses and monitoring Irukandji’s live presence on an extensive number of platforms.

We are looking for a bubbly, friendly candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment, and who can manage quickly changing priorities with efficiency. The successful applicant will possess the ability to interact positively and objectively with co-workers, Aquarium patrons, volunteers, contractors and members of the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and widely divergent levels of educational attainment and social skills.

The successful candidate will have a heart for wildlife, create meaningful connections and inspire actions that will have a lasting impact on conservation.

Responsibilities & Duties

The successful applicant will:

  • Use impeccable customer service to commence the unique experience we offer, understanding all the products while navigating iPad/computer programs and delivering Irukandji’s important mission with a clam and friendly demeaner.

Work Standard: A bubbly personality with a positive and professional outlook.

  • Will notably reduce some of the administration load using organisational and problem-solving skills to continue to shape Irukandji into the future.

Work Standard: The ability to multi-task at pace, whilst taking pride in work.

  • Manage daily operations of the online programs and systems such as Vend, Rezdy, WordPress, Xero, Google business, various social media platforms and various Online Tour Operators. Overseeing the efficient operations related to ticketing, reception, group entrance and more.

Work Standard: Natural attention to detail, never missing a beat or the small tasks as they arise.

Work Experience, Qualifications & Relevant Skills

Essential

  • Experience in general administration, reception or equivalent.
  • Experience in making and managing reservations.
  • Experience in remittance and maintaining records.
  • Proficiency with computer data entry and software programs such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong proficiency in both written and oral communication skills.
  • Apple computer skills.
  • High standard of customer care, with a friendly and bubbly demeanour.
  • Experience in cash handling.

  • Knowledge of programs listed above.

  • Cafe/restaurant operation skills.
