We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to begin in a part-time contract role that is 4 years in length with our client based in Adelaide.

About the Role:

The consultant psychiatrist is an exciting new role, providing clinical consultation for consumers accessing a facility in Adelaide’s CBD. Our client and facility are based on RII International’s “Crisis Now” movement and their international leading lived experience, high engagement, multi-disciplinary crisis model offering an alternative to Emergency Department presentations. The service will operate from 12pm to 12am and work with consumers triaged in categories 3 - 5.

The role will require clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans within a recovery-oriented, client centred framework for people experiencing mental health crisis/distress. The psychiatrist will also be available to work collaboratively with the clients team to assist in improving the wellbeing of consumers and communicate collaboratively with the family and or carers of consumers.

The consultant psychiatrist will contribute to the development and review of medical and clinic policy’s and frameworks and be involved in the clinical governance.

Our client is offering flexibility in the role and it will require someone to work either one full day a week or two half days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision to Registrar Medical Officers and Mental Health Nurse Practitioners
  • Provides consultation to staff 
  • Provide clinical mental health experience
  • Maintains expert diagnostic and assessment skills
  • Provides assessment, review, consultations and support in clinical matters
  • Be able to communicate collaboratively and effectively with consumers families and carer’s
  • Adheres to the current Mental Health Act and Regulations and other relevant legislation
  • Maintains accurate records and provide reports as required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills within a multidisciplinary service
  • Apply a strengths-based approach to complete a mental health status measurement and a needs assessment
  • Work within the parameters of the policies and procedures in addition to any professional codes of conduct
  • Ensure incident and critical incident reporting occurs in accordance with guidelines

Key Requirements:

  • Valid criminal record checks
  • Employee Working with Children check
  • A right to work in Australia
  • A valid Australian driver's licence (P plate or above) must be supplied by all new employees
  • Registration with AHPRA with a current annual practising certificate
