The School of Psychiatry is widely reputed as the pre-eminent psychiatric research department in the country, and one of the leading university groups internationally. It is located at the UNSW teaching hospitals at various metropolitan sites in the Sydney region and in rural New South Wales.

This is an opportunity to play a major role in an exciting new development with the potential to have a lasting impact on the assessment and management of dementia in Australia. The NHMRC recently funded the establishment of the Australian Dementia Network (ADNeT) and a major part of this is the development of the Australian Memory Clinics Consortium (ADNeT-MC). This position is for a skilled specialist in the field of neurocognitive disorders to be part of the team responsible for the Memory Clinics initiative.

$132K-152K plus 17% superannuation and leave loading pro rata; a pro rata clinical loading will apply to suitably qualified individuals.

Fixed Term for 12 months from date of appointment.

Position is part time (0.4 FTE/14 hrs per week)

This position will liaise closely with the ADNeT Memory Clinics (ADNet-MC) team and actively contribute to the development and conduct of training programs for the ADNet-MC. These programs will be part of the operational guidelines for the clinics that will be implemented as well as part of the accreditation process. The individual will also be involved in supporting clinicians in other ways necessary to meet the objectives of ADNeT Memory Clinics.

  • Part-time involvement in a hospital-based memory clinic will be required.
  • Interstate travel may be required to conduct training courses for accreditation.
  • Public presentations for stakeholder groups or at academic conferences may be required.


Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, with specialist qualification in a dementia-related clinical field (e.g. Psychiatry, Neurology, or Geriatrics) (i.e. Fellowship or equivalent in a speciality area)
  • A PhD or equivalent (completed or enrolled in)


Skills
  • High level clinical expertise in the assessment and management of patients with neurocognitive disorders. Advanced ability to ensure the highest standards in patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Expertise in medical research with evidence of high-quality outputs. Advanced knowledge of medical research methodology and ethics.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.


Experience
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to write ethics applications, successful grant applications and other relevant documents.
  • Experience in the assessment and management of a range of neurocognitive disorders.
