Vasse Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2022.

Vasse PS is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their leadership team as a Deputy Principal. The portfolio for the position could include, PBS coordination, school attendance management, student services, students at educational risk, learning support coordination and overseeing TDS Early Childhood. The school actively promotes inclusive pastoral care and fosters the development of social and emotional well-being through the school wide RULER program. Suitable applicants will ideally be motivated, hardworking and a highly effective leader with outstanding interpersonal skills. At Vasse PS we value excellence, leadership, collaboration and sustainability in all that we do.

The Deputy Principal will provide leadership in curriculum and the associated pedagogy. Vasse PS has a focus in its business plan priority areas of People, Place and Pedagogy. The school balances between explicit teaching and play based Kathy Walker Learning in the Junior and Inquiry based learning in the Upper Primary School. The confidence to be proactive and innovative, and being an active team player are also attributes highly valued for this position.

A cooperative and collaborative style is highly desirable, promoting positive relationships between students, staff, parents, and the wider community is an expectation.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  2. High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  3. Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs); and
  4. Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.


Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
