Appointment Pool

Churchlands Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Gardener - Handyperson for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.

Suitable applicants will work to provide gardening, grounds and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. They will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean and tidy condition, and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. In this role, you will perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener - Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. 

Ideally, suitable applicants will show initiative and a genuine interest in our school community. We are looking for applicants who are friendly and build positive relationships with the staff and the community.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  2. Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
  3. Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  4. Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
