Now seeking a skilled PHP Developer for a contract opportunity to join this large organisation for a short-term contract (with potential for extension) based in Brisbane CBD.

As PHP Developer you will help maintain the departmental websites, intranet and other websites using the Squiz Matrix CMS. You will also build, maintain and improve custom web-based applications that are customer focused and easy to use. 

Key Duties:

  • Undertake the technical development and maintenance of the departmental intranet and internet sites based on a thorough understanding of user requirements and the capabilities of the content management system;
  • Plan, design, develop and implement technical solutions to address various departmental business requirements and evaluate and re-develop existing websites and components to improve functionality, usability, accessibility and overall user experience;
  • Provide advice and direction to departmental clients regarding web solutions and communicate publishing processes, policies, standards and guidelines to colleagues and web authors;
  • Understand information security and can design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services;
  • Review service availability and capacity management to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets;
  • Identify optimisation opportunities with guidance and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions;
  • Review the solution designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology;
  • Demonstrate the ability to rapidly learn and acquire new functional and technical knowledge and skills, both front-end and back-end;
  • Deliver a customer-focused and engaging web experience through technical design and development;
  • Research and maintain an active working knowledge of current and emerging technologies/online best practices in the field of web development in order to improve customer access to information;
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging web and whole-of-government publishing strategies, policies, standards and guidelines including W3C, consistent user experience, accessibility etc. and participate in discussion and development of emerging standards/guidelines.

To be successfully considered you will have experience with Squiz Matrix CMS (or at least Drupal), HTML5, CSS/SCSS, Javascript (jQuery, Knockout and/or Vue), XML, JSON, PHP, MySQL, git, node.js, REST and SOAP services, and Apache web servers. Experience working within an Agile environment utilising Jira will also be highly advantageous.
