About the role

Mater’s Capital Works department has an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Major Projects Manager to join the team. Reporting to the Director Capital Works, this opportunity will be offered as full-time position on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

Capital Works manage a variety of asset and infrastructure projects across South East Queensland Hospital campuses, including South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield. The Major Projects Manager manages and coordinates capital works projects for the Mater Group, over $500,000.

Salary range: Commensurate with experience

What you’ll be doing

Leading, developing and mentoring a team of shared resources within the Capital Works Department, the Major Projects Manager will ensure projects are fully developed to encompass the requirement of all elements of Mater’s strategy, along with project principles of time, cost, quality, risk form and function. Some of your key responsibilities will include (not limited to):

  • Key responsibility for the coordination and delivery of allocated major projects (>$500,000) and when required the delivery of minor projects $20,000 - $500,000)
  • Managing two direct reports
  • Responsibility for preparation of Monthly Project Reports
  • Day to day monitoring of a projects’ activities, monitoring the progress of the work in terms of project objectives and implementing remedial actions if and when required and under relevant delegations
  • Be responsible for the effective delivery of management services to achieve the completion of projects within quality, time and budget parameters
  • Responsible for liaising with and monitoring the work of the appointed design consultants to ensure compliance with Mater Design Guidelines and procedures
  • Provide constructive and informative technical advice to clients, consultants and contractors
  • Maintain a clear and constructive dialogue with the client/users throughout the project to ensure that they are fully aware of the project scope, program and budget expenditure where appropriate
  • Monitor and report on project progress against pre-determined time, cost and quality specifications
  • Liaise and consult with broad base of clients within Mater as well as with clients and vendors external to the organisation to ensure the delivery of projects

About you

To be considered for this role you will have significant program management experience, particularly within a live environment and have exceptional stakeholder management.

Mandatory:

  • Tertiary qualification in construction management, engineering or project management
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in managing a portfolio of capital works projects
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing a team
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholder groups
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a larger team

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a Hospital environment
  • Electrical Engineering experience
  • Previous experience with building construction projects
  • Previous experience with operational commissioning
