Local Government NSW (LGNSW) is a not-for-profit member association, and is the voice of local government in NSW, working with councils to support, promote and improve communities throughout our state. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Policy Officer to provide advice and support to LGNSW and councils on local government planning and development issues, and develop evidence-based policy positions to advance the interests of local government and communities in NSW. The organisation LGNSW is the peak body for local government in NSW, providing advocacy, representation and support for member councils by delivering a range of services including policy, industrial relations and legal advice, as well as management services and training. We are a dedicated team of 65 staff, located in the Sydney CBD. The role Reporting to the Strategy Manager, the Senior Policy Officer, Planning will join the Planning team within the Advocacy Division. On a part-time basis, 3 days per week, this role researches, develops and implements policies and strategies in consultation with stakeholders to benefit LGNSW and its members. The role focuses on land use planning and development issues relevant to local government, including planning reforms, land use planning and infrastructure provision, building regulation and housing policy. The part-time salary package for this position is approximately $75k including superannuation. The person To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in providing expert advice to guide delivery of consistent and effective high quality policy outcomes. You will have a track record of maintaining detailed knowledge of planning and development to identify and respond to issues within a policy framework. Your strengths will be your ability to liaise with stakeholders effectively, to ensure policy positions are coordinated, aligned to member feedback and consistent with LGNSW’s position. You will be positive, results-driven and understand the key role of policy in a member organisation. Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in policy and research (preferably in local government)
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent planning and negotiation skills, and ability to think strategically
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, and government policies and processes in planning and development
