Our client a regulatory body that assesses, evaluates, and monitors medical goods to ensure quality, safety and performance is seeking an APS6 Scientific Compliance Evaluator to work in the Complimentary and over the Counter Medicines Branch, responsible for the regulation of non-prescription medicines including traditional and herbal medicines, vitamin and mineral supplements, and over-the-counter registered medicines that are supplied in Australia. This position will be specifically working in the section tasked with: 

  • Auditing and enforcing the compliance of Listed medicines included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) with regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluating scientific evidence of efficacy held by sponsors to support indications and claims for Listed medicines included in the ARTG.
  • Reviewing the quality and safety of Listed medicines included in the ARTG.
  • Liaising with stakeholders and sponsors in matters relating to the regulation of Listed medicines.
  • Undertaking business improvement projects to improve the efficiency and risk-based targeting of compliance activities for Listed medicines.
  • Contributing to the education of sponsors about the regulatory requirements for Listed medicines.
  • Providing strategic input into regulatory reform projects relating to Listed medicines. 

The successful candidate will be:

  • Undertaking compliance reviews of listed medicines, including preparing timely, high quality technical and scientific reports that summarise and provide an independent assessment of the submitted data with respect to legislative requirements.
  • Recommending robust risk-based regulatory decisions or recommendations based on sound scientific evaluation and in-depth knowledge of legislative and administrative frameworks for listed medicines.
  • Implementing individual work plans, including setting tasks and priorities, managing work flows and taking responsibility for the achievement of key performance indicators or outcomes;
  • Undertaking complex research and analysis in order to prepare high quality technical and scientific recommendations, reports and guidelines;
  • Liaising, negotiating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including collaboration to resolve complex and/or sensitive issues;
  • Making and communicating decisions that are based on professional judgement, and evaluating risks in the context of a complex and changing environment;
  • Providing strategic advice and technical expertise to guide project and program activities;
  • Preparing correspondence to industry based on the outcomes of evaluations/reviews and contributing to other relevant documents as required, including Ministerial briefing notes and submissions. 

For this vacancy we are seeking:

  • A qualification(s) in a relevant discipline such as nutrition, dietetics, naturopathy, health sciences, chemistry, epidemiology, molecular or cell biology, medical sciences, pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, biostatistics or any other relevant discipline from an Australian tertiary institution or equivalent overseas institution.
  • Understanding of legislation and policy frameworks relevant to the regulation of therapeutic goods in Australia
  • Experience supporting teams of professionals in Australian government regulatory, legal or compliance environments.

In addition, this position is with a federal government department you will need to be an Australian citizen with a police check no older than 12-months, or be willing to obtain.
This role will be offered as an APS6 equivalent hourly rate contract notionally for 12-months and will be based on site for full time hours from Symonston, Canberra. Remote working options are not available for this role.
