Primary objective

Manage the staff and passenger systems of the Guide’s teams ensuring a high standard of customer service and

interpretative experiences for Desert Park visitors. Assist in the development and implementation of holistic environmental

and conservation based visitor events to demonstrate a new level of environmental awareness, education and

appreciation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the delivery of high quality orientation, interpretation, education and specialist experiences for Desert Park

visitors

2. Manage and co-ordinate the daily operations, finances, work health and safety and human resource management of the

guide team; including effective rostering of staff across a seven day per week roster

3. Regularly act as the Park Duty Officer responsible for visitor services management, emergency response, equipment

failure and hosting / coordinating industry, community and private functions.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Extensive experience working in tourism and or hospitality with a strong customer service focus.

2. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and manage a diverse team with multi-disciplinary responsibilities, with a strong

focus on staff and team development.

3. Experience developing, training and evaluating nature and culture based interpretative programs.

4. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures: a demonstrated high level of cultural competence,

experience living or working in a culturally diverse environment and understanding of the demands, obligations and

challenges that exist for people who live and work within two cultures.

5. High level of initiative and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise activities to meet agreed objectives and

deadlines.

6. Well-developed computer literacy, oral and written communication skills and experience in public speaking.

7. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of technical

work closely related to the duties of the vacancy.

8. Willingness and ability to work on a flexible roster system including weekends, public holidays and outside business

hours.

9. Current or ability to obtain a “C” Class Northern Territory Driver’s license, Senior First Aid Certificate and a Working

with Children (Ochre) Card

Desirable

1. Knowledge of the plants, animals, people and landscapes of desert Australia.

This position involves shift work over a seven day roster working in extreme environmental conditions of Central Australia.
