The opportunity

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to advance their career within an FP&A function of a global financial services organization.

The role will assist in monitoring of divisional performance to budget and variances between forecasts; conduct data mining and analysis to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for the Group; as well as providing value adding insights and reports to senior management globally throughout QBE on a regular and ad hoc basis. This will involve manual and system-based manipulation of large volumes of data, plus consolidation of divisional submissions into a format that clearly and concisely outlines the key performance drivers. The successful candidate must have a keen eye for detail and be capable of identifying the key messages to be presented, and then generating effective and intuitive written documentation and presentations.

  • Contribute to the development of the Group’s expense, reporting, planning/budgeting/forecasting and corporate finance outputs, ensuring that they provide quality fact-based insight into current and future drivers of business performance

  • Contribute to Group FP&A Corporate Finance processes including financial modelling, peer benchmarking and competitor analysis

  • Work with the Group and divisional FP&A teams to lift the effectiveness of FP&A processes across the Group

  • Prepare Group performance reports for senior management and business partners as required, ensuring that reports are value adding in their insights and analysis, timely, accurate and concise

  • Assume responsibility for capturing appropriate quality Group’s expense, reporting, planning/budgeting/forecasting and corporate finance information, including commentary and additional KPIs, outside of established systems

  • Identify, establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders within Group head office departments and the operating divisions. This is a highly visible role which will include interaction with the broader finance, actuarial and risk communities and it is essential the incumbent builds strong and effective working relationships as part of the establishment of this new reporting process

  • Work with manager to provide standardised management reports which concisely report outlooks against the key profit drivers and which identify areas for further review

  • Develop reporting and analytical capabilities for Global FP&A to support the achievement of strategy and plans across divisions

Your story so far

  • Strong financial background, having worked in an analytical role with exposure to the preparation of management/performance reporting, expenses, planning/budgeting/forecasting and corporate finance outputs and information

  • Post-tertiary professional qualification in finance or related field (e.g. accounting, actuarial, business) plus relevant undergraduate qualifications

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities and an ability to work systematically through complex financial and non-financial challenges

  • Adaptability as evidenced by a willingness to get “hands-on” in personally delivering solutions to system, data and process challenge

  • Strong skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and the ability to become highly efficient in the use of new systems such as MS Power BI

  • Ability to interact across a variety of functions (actuarial, risk etc.) and clearly communicate with all stakeholders
