JOB DESCRIPTION

This exciting communications and engagement leadershp role will deliver communications activities across the Southern Gulf NRM and Desert Channels Queensland regions. This activity focuses on developing and implementing strategic communication and engagement plans for each organisation. The position plays a key role in maintaining the positive reputation and brands of Southern Gulf NRM and Desert Channels Queensland and in ensuring that both organisations are engaging with the right audiences at the right time.

This role can be a full-time position based in either Longreach or Mount Isa or it could be two part-time roles with one based in each location. Applicants should indicate their preference in their applications.

KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, implement and report on strategic communication plans for each organisation.
  • Maintain and enhance each organisation’s corporate brand
  • Develop and manage both corporate and program-based communication activities, including print and digital publications, media liaison, digital asset creation (such as podcasts, videos), websites (including SEO), social media and community events.
  • Develop and manage communication and engagement campaigns including budget management, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation and reporting.
  • Build and maintain productive partnerships with stakeholders including Traditional Owners, agricultural industries, community groups, government agencies and funding bodies
  • Advise and support the CEO and project staff on communications and engagement best practice.
  • Identify potential communication and engagement related funding opportunities and develop submissions accordingly.

About Southern Gulf NRM

Southern Gulf NRM is a not-for-profit community-based company responsible for planning and implementation of sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM) in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria region of North West Queensland. The Southern Gulf region covers 216,000 square kilometres and comprises the catchments of the Flinders-Cloncurry, Leichhardt, Gregory-Nicholson Rivers, Settlement Creek and Morning Inlet, and the Wellesley Islands. Programs are delivered collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including all levels of government, industry groups, Traditional Owners, and conservation groups. Southern Gulf NRM currently employs eight staff, and is governed by a Board of Directors.

About Desert Channels Queensland

Desert Channels Queensland Inc (DCQ) is a community-based natural resource management body working to ensure a sustainable social, economic and environmental future for the Queensland section of the Lake Eyre Basin. The DCQ region covers over half a million square kilometres, roughly a third of the State. DCQ fits comfortably between landholders, industry groups, Landcare groups, catchment groups, Traditional Owner groups and local government on one hand, and State and Australian Governments on the other. The operations of DCQ are supported by 17 staff based in Longreach. The staff members provide administrative, coordination, project management, on-ground works, mapping, information management, publications and communication support across all areas of DCQ work.
