Mossman Agricultural Services is a grower owned, non-for-profit organisation that supports primary industries, based in Mossman, FNQ. The organisation works predominantly on enhancing the productivity of the sugar cane industry by increasing quantity and improving quality of Mossman mill area cane crop. The small team provides extension services to implement Best Management Practice focusing on nutrient, pesticides, pest and disease as well as other services.

The Position:

A fixed full-time position until June 2023, (with potential to extend), has become available to add to our team, with the objective to increase productivity and assist growers and Mossman Ag with on farm-agronomic advice.

This position will best suit a person who is self-motivated, task driven with the ability to take on challenges with a friendly and supportive approach.

Tasks and Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Coordinate grower meetings, field days, field demonstrations and learning initiatives
  • Complete Nutrient Management Plans and Nitrogen and Phosphorus Budgets and whole of farm plans
  • Assist with field activities relating to sugarcane crops
  • Drive the adoption of BMP with all industry stakeholders
  • Monitor field trials and manage research extension
  • General reactive extension/one on one advice
  • Assist with the development of the Company’s work plan

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive technical agronomic/farming knowledge
  • Experience with research and implementing extension services
  • Good knowledge of sugarcane crop production with strong emphasis on crop nutrition
  • Excellent networking and both oral and written interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Strong computer knowledge in the Office package particularly Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

Those with a strong ability to pick up new tasks and an interest in agriculture are also encouraged to apply.


  • A tertiary qualification in Science/Agriculture or related discipline is desirable
  • C Class (manual) driver’s license
