Job Description

About the role:

To provide leadership, guidance and support to the Technical Support Department to ensure the effective management and best practice delivery of asset planning and management, environmental services, floodplain management and investigation and design services to support the ongoing provision of infrastructure and environment functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control the various units within the department including Asset Planning and Management, Sustainable Environment, Floodplain and Water Management and Investigation and Design Services.
  • Lead and mentor the team to ensure the natural and built environment are maintained and enhanced through the development and implementation of appropriate environmental, floodplain and asset management strategies, policies and programs.
  • Manage the analysis, evaluation and planning of medium and long term infrastructure options, needs and finances through the provision of reliable asset data, valuations, statutory asset reports, life cycle modelling and optimised decision making tools.
  • Manage the development, analysis, evaluation and planning of medium and long term drainage and floodplain infrastructure options, strategies and policies which accommodate regional and local needs, and are supported by the broader community of stakeholders.
  • Maximise Council’s access to and use of grant funds for drainage and floodplain initiatives.
  • Support the timely delivery of infrastructure capital works programs by overseeing the strategic asset planning, investigation and design processes.
  • Lead, inspire and develop an agile, innovative, respectful, cohesive and high achieving team of people, by promoting and delivering excellent customer service standards within Council, to the community and to Councilors, in accordance with Council business objectives and policies (including work health and safety, ethical behavior, risk, dignity and respect, and equal employment opportunity), delivered in an ethical, social and environmentally responsible manner.
Key Skills:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent combined with extensive practical experience in the relevant areas in order to effectively plan, develop and control the activities of the Department.
  • Candidates must be eligible for membership of an approved institute.
  • Current Class C Driver’s License
  • Membership of a relevant professional organization such as Engineers Australia.
  • Experience in a similar role within local government highly advantageous
