About City of Darebin and Council

As a member of the Major Projects team, you will provide support to our local community through the delivery of Darebin Council’s design, movement and delivery objectives listed in Preston Reconnected. You will support the development of programs and take part in community consultation. The successful applicant will work in partnership with multiple departments through effective teamwork and will develop sound working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

About the Role

Joining the Major Projects team, the future Level Crossing Removal Business Support Officer will play an integral part of leading the Council’s response and advocacy to the State Government on LXRP projects.

As a member of the City Futures team, you will provide support to our local community through the delivery of Darebin Council’s design, movement and delivery objectives listed in Preston Reconnected. During this period, you will coordinate the development of programs and take part in community consultation. You will work in partnership with multiple departments through effective teamwork to ensure key deadlines are met. You will also work closely with the Coordinator Major Projects to develop sound working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Duties

  • Driving actions and outcomes listed on ‘Preston Reconnected’
  • Developing and implementing programs and initiatives that respond to and support the capacity building of businesses for the duration of the LXRP project.
  • Foster networking and partnerships between industry, business, business associations, Preston Market management, community and council.
  • Become a trusted representative of Council for local businesses and build and maintain open constructive relationships with various stakeholders such as businesses and community groups.
  • Engaging with a diverse community with many languages.

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in business, marketing, design (or related discipline) and relevant experience in the operation or management of business or consultancy environment.
  • Experience in implementing programs, events and actions related to business retention, development and employment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and presentation skills and well-developed customer service and liaison skills.
  • Knowledge of the contribution of economic development to the overall role and function of local government and the economic drivers/key challenges facing business and industry.
  • Experience in managing stakeholders in various industries and across the organisation who may have conflicting expectations to resolve complex problems.
