First Quantum Minerals is one of the world's biggest mining companies, employing over 20,000 people.
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is our flagship operation in Australia. Located on the beautiful south coast of Western Australia, we're just 20 minutes from the coastal community of Hopetoun.
As a major nickel producer and exporter, we aim to ship up to 30,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate each year via Esperance Port.
A dynamic, active and expanding mining operation, there are nearly 600 people employed at the site by First Quantum and its major contractors.
We're also expanding with the opening of our new nickel deposit, called Shoemaker Levy, which will extend our mine life by at least 20 years.
This is an exciting operating environment for anyone who wants to develop their mining skills and expertise in a sophisticated operating environment.
The purpose of this role is to monitor Mining contractors in the execution of the mine plan, production targets and mining methodology according to the budget, schedule and quality controls.
Key responsibilities:
- Guide the mining contractors to achieve the economic targets of the mine plan for ore and waste delivery.
- Ensure delivery to ROM tons and grades, and waste stripping, as in accordance with the daily to annual plan and budget.
- Monitor and track mining activities in regards to drill & blast, load & haul, cable handling & ancillary services as well as the management of waste dumps and all stockpiles according to short and long term plans.
- Day-to-day supervision of mine-related projects as appropriate to meet the mine plan, across earthworks projects, sump excavation, ramps, box cuts, and other, according to plans, schedules, quality control and other project management functions provided by Manager, Mining .
- Ensure the maintenance of mining equipment is carried out in accordance with the schedule
- Ensure equipment reliability is at budget levels at optimal cost.
- Recommend relevant benchmarks and identify industry best practice in the mining operation
- Identify and implement improvement activities required to achieve and exceed the identified benchmarks.
- Monitor performance targets and use systems to assess the performance of the mining team.
- Work with the Mining contractor to implement corrective actions where performance targets are not being met.
- Ensure that safety, labour, health, environmental, legal and company standards are complied with.
- Assist and collaborate with the Mining Contractors for training, growth opportunities, support and guidance to mining and mine maintenance personnel.
Skills and experience requirement:
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience including at least 2-3 years in a senior mine production role.
- Qualified mining engineer, with an unrestricted quarry manager ticket or first class mine manager ticket.
