Having recently established a dedicated design system team we’re expanding and seeking another senior designer with strong user experience skills to help take this to the next level. If you’ve created or contributed to design systems and are experienced in understanding and solving problems from a wide range of perspectives, then we’re keen to hear from you. You’ll design components, patterns, flows, templates and help define the guidance and governance for the Service NSW design system. 

As Senior Product Designer you will be working with a diverse set of product teams across the whole of Service NSW to continue to build out the Service NSW design system. You are encouraged and empowered to own the end-to-end design process through discovery, audits, research, framing and iterative development and collaborate closely with teams of other Designers, Engineers, Product Managers and other subject matter experts.

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Presenting your research, findings and design solutions to design community forums such as Design Guilds and Design System Councils to seek input and feedback.
  • Asking the right questions, crafting solutions and delivering validated components, patterns and templates to our product teams.
  • The ability to think strategically about how your solutions will work for a cross-section of use cases across product teams within Service NSW and other government agencies.
  • Lead end to end product design through discovery, audits, research, framing and iterative development and delivery 
  • Conduct interviews with stakeholders and end-users and synthesize insights into actionable next steps 
  • Creates the User Experience designs (user interface design comps, visual design specs, prototypes, and other visual assets) for the design system 
  • Communicate and present your ideas effectively
  • Collaborate across NSW Government with partner agencies and customers to understand requirements 
  • Proactively seek to unify the customer’s experience across the product offering by engaging with other product teams.

Your experience you bring on your first day:

  • Extensive experience using Sketch, Axure or other prototyping software to help build out components, patterns, flows and templates for design systems.
  • Wide experience working with or contributing to design systems, styleguides and visual identity 
  • Product Design experience working in a lean environment and have successfully designed complex digital products 
  • Strong presenting, workshopping and facilitation skills 
  • Ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps 
  • Accessibility is at the forefront of every interaction 
  • Empathy for the end user 
  • You are curious, flexible and have a learning mindset
