About the role:

Taskforce Reset Disclosure Team sits within Taskforce Reset in the Specialist Operations Portfolio. Taskforce Reset was established to continue the discovery and disclosure work undertaken by Taskforce Landow in response to the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (RCMPI).

Taskforce Reset will also co-ordinate the implementation of recommendations made by the RCMPI. The taskforce includes a multi discipline team of sworn, VPS and contracted Lawyers and Barristers.

Within Taskforce Reset, the Disclosure Team focuses on Victoria Police's disclosure obligations, in both the criminal and civil jurisdictions.

The Senior Police Lawyer will be an integral member of the Disclosure Team, and will be managed by the Principal Managing Lawyer, who reports directly to the Director, Legal Services Department.

The successful applicant will be required to case manage the disclosure process for specific persons of interest in relation to Court of Appeal matters and if required, assist in the preparation of documents for general disclosure and civil discovery, as well as manage and support the development of a team of lawyers and sworn members.

The role will require demonstrated effective self-management of performance and workload skills as well as demonstrated ability to liaise with and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholder.

The successful applicant will require effective communication skills and their duties will include providing briefings and advice to management to inform decision making regarding the disclosure process.

In addition to associated administrative tasks, your duties will include:

  • Acting as the case manager on behalf of Victoria Police in the disclosure of material to the courts.
  • Provide briefings and legal advice to senior management in relation to the disclosure process and Victoria Police's ongoing duty of disclosure.
  • Acting as a liaison point between external agencies and Victoria Police and develop sound relationships with those agencies.
  • Supervising and mentoring other Police Lawyers.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of complex and sensitive court cases.
  • Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer.
  • A current unrestricted practicing certificate.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in relevant legislation, policy and legal practice pertaining to the role and organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of complex and sensitive court cases.
  • The ability to lead, coordinate and motivate as a leader of a team.
  • Sound understanding and application of the professionalism, ethics and integrity


Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) full time, fixed term (until 31/12/2022) position available.
  • The position will be located at 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • Due to the current demand experienced within legal services, the role may require at times to undertake varied work within the Department.
