You will manage the day to day operations of a team of lawyers and provide quality specialised legal services to Land Use Victoria's divisions of Land Registry Services and Strategic Land Assessment & Information including the Registrar of Titles, the Surveyor-General Victoria and the Valuer-General Victoria.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Law degree or other formal qualification in law – mandatory.
  • Admission: Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria – mandatory.
  • Knowledge: Sound knowledge of one of:
    • Complex Transactions - the Electronic Conveyancing National Law (Victoria), Operating Requirements for electronic conveyancing, Participation Rules for electronic conveyancing, Registrar's Requirements for paper conveyancing, Subdivision Act 1988, Transfer of Land Act 1958, and associated regulations; or
    • Litigation - civil procedure and issues relating to the conduct of litigation in the Supreme Court, the County Court, as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal; together with sound knowledge of the Transfer of Land Act 1958, Valuation of Land Act 1960, Surveying Act 2004, and associated regulations; or
    • Contract - contract law and of the requirements of the Victorian Government in respect of contracts entered into by State Government departments.
  • Experience:
    • Management of a team of lawyers.
    • Demonstration of one of:
      • Complex Transactions - understanding of the procedures for the examination and registration of dealings in land and water together with experience in the interpretation, review and development of legislation; property law, land registration; land administration; contract law; public and administrative law; and the formulation of complex legal advice; or
      • Litigation - experience in the conduct and management of civil litigation matters; or
      • Contract - experience in the interpretation, review and development of contract law; public and administrative law; and the formulation of complex legal advice.

This is a fixed term position available for a period until 30 June 2022.
