About the organisation

The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) is the independent statutory authority that administers Victoria's gambling and liquor laws. We are responsible for gambling and liquor licensing and undertake activities to prevent and detect breaches, also informing and educating industry and the general public about regulatory practices and requirements. 

The opportunity

The Compliance Division is responsible for promoting, investigating, auditing and enforcing compliance with Victoria's gambling and liquor laws. As an Investigator/Inspector you will be responsible for regulating gambling and liquor industries within metropolitan and regional Victoria. This could include routine inspections, audits, observations, investigations and complaint handling into regulated entities to ensure compliance with their legislative obligations.

Reporting to the Team Leader you will be required lead and conduct regulatory investigations and initiate appropriate compliance and enforcement action in response to identified breaches. This will include compiling prosecution briefs of evidence and preparing accurate and thorough reports, as well as undertaking administrative and client services duties when required. This role is an integral part of the regulatory functions of the VCGLR with the primary objective of minimising the harm to the community from the gambling and liquor industries.

Other operational functions within this role include undertaking divisional operations and working in conjunction with co-regulators. On occasions, there will also be the requirement to work from the casino complex in Southbank.

This role can demand flexibility as it requires shift work with variable shift patterns, including afternoon and night shifts, and may require some overnight travel to regional Victoria.

Who we are looking for

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in conducting complex investigations and or a compliance, regulatory or law enforcement background;
  • Ability to identify issues to be investigated relating to relevant legislation, policy and/or operating procedures;
  • he ability to make sound, timely and well-informed recommendations for alleged breaches of legislation administered by the Commission; 
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and promote a positive workplace culture.
