About the Department:
Support Services is a large and varied department (Patient Services Assistants, cleaning, clerical, car parking, and patient transport) operating across multiple locations within St Vincent’s Melbourne campus. We will provide you with an orientation to the role and a supportive workplace.

This role may be required to cover shifts at our St Vincent’s Hospital Fitzroy site or close by at our St Vincent’s at the Park site. The Ward Support/ Porter role is responsible for cleaning, ward support, waste management and patient transport and stock movement. The team servicing 24 hours / 7 days per week.

About the Role:
We are looking for energetic and passionate Support staff to help grow our part time pool across our Fitzroy, East Melbourne and Kew sites.

Become an integral team member of the Support Services division and assist our teams in the delivery of excellence across our many services including cleaning, patient ward support, patient food delivery, ward clerical support, and car parking services across our sites in East Melbourne, Fitzroy and Kew. This is an autonomous role and the successful applicants will be able to perform all duties listed below, whilst also having flexible availability and being able to work a variety of different shifts.

Classifications for this position will be PS21 - PS25 ($25 - $25.80 per hour).


  • Waste removal – including clinical and sharps, recyclables and confidential waste according to waste management policies.
  • Floor Maintenance – sweeping vacuuming, mopping, polishing, buffing and steam cleaning floors
  • Room cleaning, including bathrooms and bed making
  • Collect and deliver food and kitchen supplies, clean kitchen areas
  • Follow daily work schedule, in a timely matter

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Current PSA Certificate or equivalent is desirable, but not essential
  • Previous experience as a cleaner
  • Previous experience in a hospital or health care setting is desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to phone calls and messages
