The Opportunity.

We require an Entomologist to work as part of the Post-Harvest Disinfestation team of the Plant Biosecurity branch at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The Post-Harvest Disinfestation group carries out research supporting Western Australian growers in gaining market access to national and international markets. This role will conduct research and analysis of commercial and semi-commercial disinfestation trials and manage strong working relationships with stakeholders including growers, industry development officers and coordinating disinfestation trials with external providers. You will be responsible for simultaneously conducting multiple projects with variable deadlines and crops.

The Ideal Candidate.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and optimistic individual who has:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in entomology, preferably with knowledge and experience in fruit fly post-harvest disinfestation and with mass rearing of insects including fruit fly;
  • Experience in biostatistics;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific information to departmental staff, industry, and the community;
  • Well-developed ability to build effective relationships and innovate to meet challenges;
  • Well-developed skills to think strategically and deliver in a changing environment;
  • Proven ability to lead and empower others.

You will also need a Bachelor degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an approved equivalent.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.
