This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2021

Caversham Primary School (PS) is seeking a passionate Teacher of Languages – AUSLAN to join their friendly team.

We are looking for highly collaborative educator who is willing to create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment. The successful applicant will exhibit a strong knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy as well as an ability to inspire students to develop a passion for learning in vibrant, engaging and supportive classrooms. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build effective working relationships with students, staff and the wider school community.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with staff and the community to gain the very best outcomes for each and every student. You will also be expected to be active members of our specialist team, taking on a leadership role and working alongside other specialist teaching staff in the development and review of learning and operational planning. Ideally, you will be committed to developing your own capacity through ongoing professional learning, self-reflection and gaining feedback from all members of the school community.

You will also possess flexible instructional practices, enabling you to select and implement the most appropriate instructional strategy for the context, the students and the curriculum content. As a teacher of AUSLAN at our school, you will embed high quality, evidence informed, whole school practices, including whole school approaches in Visible Learning, Behaviour and Digital Technologies. The opportunity to embed AUSLAN across our school community will be a challenging and highly rewarding role.

Caversham PS is growing rapidly, with 52% of our students coming from a background of English as an Additional Language or Dialect. Over 56 different languages are spoken in our families’ homes, making Caversham Primary a rich and diverse community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
