The Role

The Sustainable Development Manager in Australia is a key leadership role, responsible for implementation of Sustainability for all assigned projects or other designated areas of responsibility within a global business unit. Provides technical and administrative guidance to the global business unit & participates in discipline specific policy development.

Role will be based in either Brisbane or Perth.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Responsible for sustainability strategy, operating plans and performance within the business unit.
  2. Provides direct input to proposals, strategic plans, client presentations, and resourcing discussions.
  3. Participates in developing discipline specific business unit policy and other direction, such as procedures and providing input to cross-functional procedures to incorporate sustainability aspects.
  4. Participates in evaluating discipline specific office workload and staffing plans.
  5. Formulates policy for conducting business unit operation.
  6. Participates in Bechtel Group, Inc. Sustainability activities.
  7. Reviews and provides guidance to project sustainability plans.
  8. Makes presentations to management and clients.
  9. Responsible for the global business unit departmental personnel functional administration and development, as well as training programs within the function and on sustainability subject matter for other functional training.
  10. Responsible for the implementation of the sustainability management system, and its continuous improvement within the global business unit, including engagement of internal stakeholders such as through management and utilization of the Sustainability Oversight Committee.
  11. Performs assessments/audits to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability implementation at the GBU level and on select projects.
  12. Responsible for the effective implementation of department procedures and engaging with other departments to encourage and facilitate their understanding of the requirements (e.g. M&BD, Operations).

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated experience in all aspects of sustainability activities in the field and home office environments. Experience in developing and implementing project level sustainability plans.

Skilled in developing and implementing project sustainability component plans such as stakeholder engagement, Rating System implementation, etc.

Skilled in working with other functions to implement sustainability commitments and activities, and monitoring effectiveness of programs.

Expert level of knowledge of sustainability issues, implementation and work processes, as performed by Bechtel.

Knowledge of engineering and construction, and project management customarily acquired over time through exposure or practical experience. Knowledgeable about current industry and technical developments of sustainability as applied to infrastructure projects.

Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated skill in presenting sustainability information at the right level to various audiences, (e.g. management, colleagues and clients.)

Demonstrated skill in management, supervisory, and personnel administration functions.

Demonstrated skill in formulating and presenting new concepts for GBU and corporate policy.
