PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Known as the “Gladstone Capital Projects”, seconded services will be offered to Rio Tinto Alumina to assist with strategic Gladstone capital projects and Brisbane office services. Bechtel has history with both greenfield formation and brownfield expansion of the Yarwun Alumina Refinery, along with Special Project initiatives. In a similar manner, over time, QAL has been assisted by Bechtel through directed in-plant services support.

These placements will assist with meeting timeframe delivery, contractor management, and capital project management within the Yarwun Alumina Refinery and Queensland Alumina Refinery (QAL) facilities. These placements will work alongside existing shutdown teams and maintenance activities to focus on safely executing specific capital projects.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for supervising and directing operations associated with the Electrical works on the project, and other works as may be assigned. This role supervises and directs contractors, subordinate supervisors and others, as assigned while ensuring assigned construction operations and contractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for field construction operations and coordination of works associated with the Electrical scope on site and other discipline works as may be assigned.
  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Monitors the activities of contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications, procedures, construction methods, schedules and ensures the quality of the work performed.
  • Ensure contractors and subcontractors have developed work packs in conjunction with Field Engineering.
  • Directs contractor and supplier personnel to ensure progress and schedule are met.
  • Reviews, monitors and implements schedules, construction methods and procedures and reviews such information with Area/Electrical Superintendent and ensures compliance to Project goals.
  • Prepares and presents daily and weekly management reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, job manpower forecasts.
  • Coordinates activities with other disciplines or areas and clients’ resident representatives, as instructed by construction management.
  • Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned operations.
  • Ensures that Bechtel and local/national safety and environmental codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility. Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into every aspect of construction operations. Actively participates in scheduled safety meetings.
  • Implements and supports the Contractor daily interaction in Pre-Start, Safety Inspections, Behavior Based Safety (BBS) and weekly toolbox forums.
  • Review subcontractor craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Review and approve major subcontractor equipment mobilization and demobilization.
  • Assist with the preparation of the four-week schedule look ahead.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking application and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Knowledge of a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation.

2. Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.

3. Computer literate in word processing and spreadsheet applications.

4. Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.

5. Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.

6. Experience working with, supervising and administering contractors and subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.

7. Skill in oral and written communications.

8. Prefer to hold a current Australian recognised Electrical License.


These skills and knowledge can be acquired through:

§ A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or

§ Specialized courses in construction technology and management, and/or

§ Prior practical work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
