The Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR) is the largest procedure registry within Australia. It monitors the outcome of all arthroplasty procedures nationally. This includes hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and spinal disc replacement. It is owned and managed by the AOA and permanently funded by the Commonwealth Government under contract with the AOA. It is listed by the Commonwealth Government as a Federal Quality Assurance Activity. The AOANJRR is currently undertaking several priority projects which will further develop the capabilities of the AOANJRR, leading to better patient outcomes and associated savings to the health system.

About the role
The Project Coordinator will have a key role in coordinating the implementation of the AOANJRR Nested Clinical Trials. The Project Coordinator will participate in and support other AOANJRR projects as required. The Project Coordinator will be key in maintaining positive stakeholder relationships, developing project documentation, plans, updates, reports and will undertake a variety of complex administrative duties in support of project objectives.


  • Under the direction of the AOANJRR Project Manager, undertake a range of project coordination duties including:
  • Working with stakeholders to scope and plan project deliverables
  • Monitoring and reporting against budget, timeframes and other performance indicators
  • Managing a schedule of project meetings
  • Planning and implementing change management strategies
  • Drafting high-quality briefings, reports and presentations for a range of audiences
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the project including acting as the first point of contact in relation to project progress and objectives
  • Provide executive support for project meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes and undertaking any follow up actions after meetings
  • Build and sustain relationships with an extensive network of internal and external stakeholders to support project objectives
  • Monitor and provide support to the data collection sites (i.e., hospitals) including responding to queries, providing training on data collection software and procedures
  • Contribute to the project review process by identifying and reporting on project risks, and implementing efficient risk-management and contingency strategies as directed
  • Prepare, submit and maintain records of ethics applications for various committees including hospital approval processes
  • Oversee the ethical conduct of the study and lodge amendments and reports to the ethics committees as required
  • Identify and implement strategies to enhance the recruitment, management and retention of participating hospitals and surgeons
  • Plan, undertake and oversee project related tasks as required, ensuring they are completed in accordance with agreed standards and timeframes
  • Provide support to a range of other small projects as required

Skills and experience

  • Degree qualification in a relevant field with extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise of complex projects or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated high-level project and event management skills with a record of successfully coordinating or supporting projects through to completion in accordance with agreed standards, timeframes and budgets
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide formal and informal leadership in a complex project
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparing and submitting ethics and local governance applications
  • Highly-developed relationship management skills, including the ability to interact with, and gain cooperation from with a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience in developing professional documentation and presenting information
  • Advanced computer literacy with experience in the use of project management software and related application capabilities
  • Experience in or knowledge of the health/hospital system within Australia
