Townsville University Hospital operates a level 5-6 surgical intervention service to the North Queensland community.
The theatre complex comprises 14 operating theatres providing both elective and emergency theatre sessions.
This opportunity will most likely appeal to an early-career neurosurgeon who has recently received their Fellowship and wishes to develop their practice of neurosurgery in a supportive and busy public hospital practice.
The capabilities expected of the role are of a well-trained general neurosurgeon who does not necessarily have many years of practice of post-Fellowship training. Independent surgical practice in routine areas of elective, acute and traumatic brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery is expected. The ability to undertake complex surgery such as aneurysm surgery, complex base of skull tumours, pedicle screw instrumented lumbar spine surgery and peripheral nerve reconstruction is not required. Of most importance is the ability to work as part of a team and accept the advice and oversight of senior colleagues in a learning and development environment.
We undertake outreach outpatient clinics in Cairns and Mackay as well as provide outpatient and inpatient Care through Townsville University Hospital. Air travel to outreach clinics is an expected part of this role.
Mandatory qualifications/ professional registration
Appointment to this position requires proof of Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. You should apply if you are sitting your Fellowship exams currently. Please do not apply if you do not have RACS Fellowship at present or a reasonable expectation of receiving Fellowship in the very near future. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropiate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee.
Qualified as a medical practitioner with qualifications in Neurosurgery and current registration and / or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in that field
