An exciting opportunity exists for a Manager, Accounting Policy on an ongoing basis in Accounting Policy, Financial Reporting Group.

Financial Reporting Group

The Financial Reporting Group has two distinct teams as well as functions. It is responsible for managing the preparation and delivery of the financial reporting aspects of key Department of Treasury and Finance products. The second team (the team for which this recruitment is undertaken) provides expert accounting advisory services, including development and maintenance of a best-practice financial reporting framework, and providing accounting advice on specific projects and initiatives.

Role description

As our ideal candidate, you will be expected to:

  • Have specialist professional accounting advisory expertise and be relied on for authoritative advice on complex accounting and financial reporting issues, transactions and initiatives;
  • Routinely advise senior management on complex accounting and financial reporting issues and provide options for discussion and consideration that enable decision making;
  • Develop accounting and financial reporting policy frameworks and standards that support robust financial management and reporting practices across the Victorian Public Sector;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Victorian public sector entities in the application of accounting standards and financial reporting policies and practices;
  • Contributes to the quality assurance of the Department's products and publications;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships within the Department and with other central and portfolio agencies including the ability to provide strategic focus to high-level problem solving and negotiations with key stakeholders; and
  • Actively support and contribute to organisational goals, demonstrate organisational values and behaviours, and a commitment to personal and professional development. This includes providing leadership and support to dedicated teams, working co-operatively with other teams, and supporting the Director to ensure appropriate management of staff and allocation of effort and resources.

A finance or accounting qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
