In partnership with DELWP, City of Kingston and City of Casey we seek a Building Inspector (High-Risk Waste Industry) within the Building & Compliance Services team reporting to the Municipal Building Surveyor. Working across three municipalities this new position allows for an opportunity to seek an energetic and enthusiastic candidate with a strong focus on building enforcement, customer service and community engagement. You will have positive negotiation skills and a passion for stakeholder engagement to guide persons to comply with the Victorian building legislation. The Primary Objectives Of The Position Are To

  • Actively work with and on behalf of DELWP, the City of Greater Dandenong, the City of Casey and the City of Kingston Councils.
  • Ensure that the City of Greater Dandenong Council’s obligations are met under the Building Act, associated codes and regulations.
  • Identify current gaps, barriers and strategic issues impeding effective building regulation and providing recommendations to address these issues.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to the customers and provide administrative assistance to Building Services area to assist the team to achieve its legislative responsibilities.

Selection of the most suitable applicant will be based on the following:
  • Degree or Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying combined with substantial high level of experience of Essential Safety Measures audits in large size commercial / industrial buildings
  • Registration as building practitioner in the category of Building Inspector – Unlimited or Building Surveyor - Unlimited.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and gain the cooperation and assistance of other team members, Council management and staff.
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills in order to communicate effectively and efficiently with the external customers and providing excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage one’s own workload in combination with demonstrated ability to use initiative to continually review and where necessary to improve procedures and processes.
  • Proven knowledge in Microsoft Office suite of applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point along with a demonstrated ability to operate the P & R data base.
  • A current (and ongoing) valid Victorian Driver Licence as well as satisfactory (and ongoing) Police Check supplied prior to offer of employment and commencement
