Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia's Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia's premier gold operations. In late 2020 a new satellite open pit was approved (Golden Delicious) which will supplement the large-scale underground operation that employs more than 650 people, and produces approximately 260,000 ounces of gold per annum. Ongoing investment in underground and regional exploration at Sunrise Dam has extended the mine life to 2031, with the opportunity for further extensions. Operating on an attractive 8/6 fly-in fly-out roster, Sunrise Dam boasts excellent accommodation and facilities.

We are now seeking an experienced Open-pit Production Assistant to join our Mine Geology team at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine.

Accountable to the OP Senior Mine Geologist, the purpose of the role is to assist the technical services team with all aspects of open pit production activities, including data entry, liaising with contractors, inspection and monitoring of mining activities.

This role is based at the Sunrise Dam Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for monitoring mining activities, identify and communicate issues affecting quality of mining methods.
  • Provide support to the Mine Geologists in short term grade control processes through effective monitoring of grade control drilling, ore spotting, material movement data collection.
  • Implementation and supervision of blast movement indicators.
  • Communicating formally and informally with Open-Pit Mining department staff and providing the Mining Department with daily dig plans, and process performances.
  • Managing daily material movement data with regards to haulage and ROM transfer.
  • Managing daily drilling data with regards to grade control.
  • Liaise with the mining contractor on production reporting data, data QAQC and validation
  • Providing interface between production and geology department.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proactive approach to hazard and incident reporting, workplace inspections.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork
  • BSc or Diploma in Geology or other mining related discipline preferred but not essential.
  • A good understanding of software applications including MS Suite and mining specific software is desirable but not essential
  • A results oriented can-do approach to getting things done and a desire to learn and take on new responsibilities
  • A WA C class (manual) drivers licence
  • Australian Permanent Residency
  • A National Police Clearance
