JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client is a family run operation with properties based at Wombat, Burcher and Gulargambone in NSW. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and conscientious person to join this professional family owned and operated business. The position is cropping focused and based at the Wombat operation, covering 7300 acres 15kms out of Young, NSW. Property comprises a mixed farming enterprise running approx. 10,000 Merino and Composite sheep and cropping 1250 ha per year. The cropping program includes wheat, canola, oats as well as pastures establishment and renovation for the grazing operation. The property runs all modern gear and employs advanced farming techniques to optimise production.

The Senior Cropping Leading Hand will need to work in well with the team which includes the owners, two livestock-focused personnel and be able to work with the other member of the cropping team or contractors as required. The position requires attention to detail, great communication skills and the ability to problem solve to undertake all planning and duties involved in the cropping program.

The successful applicant will be hardworking, respectful, energetic and take pride in keeping machinery, workshops and the whole property neat, tidy and well presented. You will be passionate about cropping and agriculture and ideally treat everything as you would if it were your own. You will also have the ability to manage staff during busy times and generally get jobs done that need doing. The position will occasionally involve long hours/weekend work as well as travel to the other farms to support essential operations during busy times.

To be successful in this role you must have -

  • At least 5 years’ experience in broadacre cropping including spraying, sowing, and harvesting and operation of tractors, seeder, loaders, sprayers, trucks, harvester, chaser bin etc
  • Sound cropping related mechanical ability and skills with modern gear including diagnostics and troubleshooting up to the point where a mechanic/specialist may be called in.
  • Ability to monitor crops, keep good records and liaise with an agronomist.
  • Knowledge and understanding of biosecurity, and workplace safety.
  • High level of general agricultural knowledge and workshop skills for care and maintenance of plant, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • The ability to work unsupervised, be self-motivated, follow instructions, and delegate or co-ordinate work within the team environment.
  • Chem Cert Accreditation
  • MC truck licence would be highly regarded.


A generous remuneration package will be negotiated, based on skills and experience. 

The farm is located 15kms out of Young, NSW which is a good town with excellent facilities. Two-hour drive to Canberra, Wagga and Orange.
