The Position

The Finance Officer, as part of a team, will be responsible for providing Payroll/Bookkeeping duties and other financial services that are deemed critical to providing adequate administrative support for the operations of Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation.

Core aspects of your role will include:

  • Assist in preparation and maintenance of Payroll and records.
  • Maintaining records in correct manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Anyinginyi Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020, awards, determinations and general orders that relate to staff conditions of employment and be aware of union organiser or delegate presence or activity.
  • Assist in preparation and reconcile banking.
  • Assist in maintenance of Fringe Benefits records.
  • Assist in the maintenance reconciliation of Petty Cash.
  • Assist in the collation and preparation of source documentation in the preparation of payment vouchers for the payment of creditors, including:
  • Account coding of invoices
  • Matching invoices to purchase orders
  • Confirming receipt of goods and services
  • Inputting invoice details
  • Production of payment vouchers
  • Obtaining authorization of payment
  • Assist in prompt processing of cheques, EFT and credit card payments ensuring items are charged to correct bank accounts.
  • Other duties as directed by the Senior Finance Officer or Corporate Services Section Manager.

Are you the right person?

Essential skills and experience:

  • Respect for traditional Aboriginal Culture and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people and people of diverse cultures.
  • Well-developed numeracy and literacy and computer skills.
  • Previous experience and or qualifications in Xero, Word, Excel, Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated understanding of payroll procedures and associated concepts and laws.
  • Demonstrated understanding of debtors and creditors.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of financial reports and budgets
  • Experience and understanding of general administration procedures
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • A commitment to engage with Continuous Quality Activities within the section of Anyinginyi that you are employed in, on a personal and team level.
  • Current Northern Territory Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.


  • Demonstrated previous experience within Primary Health Care Services within an Aboriginal community as a Finance Officer will be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of workplace infection control, OH&S and anti-discrimination as it applies to the workplace.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Region.

Appointment Conditions:

Employment is conditional on obtaining a Ochre Card (NT Working with Children) prior to commencement in this role.
