What you’ll do

The Regulatory Lawyer is responsible for providing valuable and timely legal support to the Financial Crime Risk team, AML CO and Business Risk teams along with to colleagues within the wider legal team on financial crime and related matters. Responsibilities include:

  • Support the General Counsel (GC) with relation to the Financial Crime Legal function and provide back up in the GC role during absences. Assist GC with provision of legal and strategic advice to the Financial Crime risk team and business in relation to compliance with Financial Crime obligations.
  • Provide high quality and timely legal advice and services to the Financial Crime team, as well as the Tabcorp Group as a whole, assisting with compliance with Financial Crime, regulatory obligations. 
  • Review new and proposed legislation and government policy and advise on emerging legal issues impacting the Group.
  • Provide effective and timely delivery of legal services in relation to Financial Crime matters; principal legal advisor for the Group’s Financial Crime Risk Team.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive efficiencies and best practice in the business, Financial Crime and broader legal teams.
  • Manage external law firms to ensure legal services are provided in a timely manner and value for money is obtained for the business.

 ** This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane

What you’ll bring 

  • Degree qualified in Law with at least 3-5 years post admission experience.
  • Admitted as a solicitor in Victoria, New South Wales and/or Queensland.
  • In-house or in private practice at a top-tier firm is highly advantageous.
  • Advanced knowledge of AML/CTF, Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Sanctions laws
  • Ability to operate autonomously – a self-starter with the ability to demonstrated initiative and drive.
  • A strong team player with the capability to collaborate across all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal services through advanced communication, negotiation, influencing and drafting skills.
  • Develop and implement knowledge management systems, processes and procedures for the legal team including in relation to development of resources in key areas, precedent creation, and organisation.
