Here’s where you come in:

The Product Development team works across a number of research themes broadly aimed at improving the quality and shelf-life of blood products, and making them safer for patients associated with blood transfusion. We use our expertise in cellular biology, molecular biology and immunology to understand both how blood products change during routine storage and to develop new ways of storing blood products.
You will provide research support across a number of projects on blood donation. Our goal is to deliver leading edge research that translates into evidence-based business practice, while expanding academic knowledge about blood donation. You will use experience and/or intellectual expertise to generate and analyse data, and from time to time, provide advice and recommendations in relation to project outcomes. This role will involve:

Blood separation and isolation of specific cell types
  • Functional assays of platelets, white cells and red blood cells
  • Cell proliferation and activity assays
  • Flow cytometry
  • Biochemical analysis of blood cells

This is a permanent part-time opportunity working 30.4 hours per week across four days; there is some flexibility on which 4 days. You will report directly into the Research Program Leader and you will be based out of our Processing Centre in Alexandria, Sydney, NSW.

Key Skills:

  • Completed an Honours degree (Biomedical/Life Sciences) or equivalent
  • At least a year’s experience in biochemistry, cell biology, haematology or immunology
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory records
  • The ability to assimilate complex concepts and integrate into practical application
  • Excellent technical proficiency

  • An excellent communicator with great verbal and written skills
  • Analytical in your approach to problem solving
  • Able to undertake and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently
  • An outstanding team player who supports the achievement of shared goals
