THE COMPANY
Our Client is a leading Australian, family-run mixed farming operation located in the Grampians VIC. The Operation produces 3,500ha of wheat, barley, oats, legumes, canola and hay plus 4,000 medium micron wool/prime lamb and additionally run their own cartage operations locally and Interstate. This dynamic Company is seeking an experienced and professional Farm Production Manager to successfully hands-on manage the Farm’s production operations and staff therein.
THE ROLE
The Production Manager successfully drives the day-to-day cropping, hay and sheep operations on the farm in collaboration with the Farm Manager:
• Work closely with the Farm Manager to ensure all cropping, haymaking and livestock activities are undertaken in a timely manner;
• Work closely with the Farm Manager to ensure all staffing, machinery and weather/operational constraints are successfully met;
• Learn and undertake paddock/farm planning, electronic record keeping, paddock performance monitoring and industry compliance;
• Oversee/ hands-on operate large scale broadacre machinery including set up and maintenance;
• Set and meet timelines & production targets for spraying, seeding to harvest of broadacre crops and hay;
• Crop husbandry and monitoring in consultation with Agronomist;
• Induct and training Staff in use of crop and hay machinery;
• Team Leader and motivator for Farm Staff;
• Be proactive and flexible in use of best practice technology;
• Undertake grain and hay storage duties;
• Undertake paddock and livestock recording and analysis;
• Monitor farm expenses and purchases to keep within budget; and
• Where necessary, implement safe operating procedures.
THE REQUIREMENTS
You ideally have 5+ years’ experience working in mixed farming operations – preferably with the following:
• Competent operation of tractors, seeders, sprayers, harvesters and other farm equipment;
• Computer literacy including the use of spreadsheets, word and mobile apps;
• Ability to record, monitor and analyse ag software for paddock and livestock;
• Hold a current chemical certificate with relevant experienced in the use of chemicals to manage crops and pastures; and
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
• Basic first aid training;
• Financial literacy;
• HR or HC/MC Drivers Licence;
• Basic welding and metal work skills;
• Telehandler Licence; and
• OHS awareness and training.
You have a strong background in related mixed farming operations; are a great team player, and ideally have experience with computer-based farm record keeping.
