JOB DESCRIPTION

EXPERIENCED FIELD SALES MANAGER TO RESHAPE

TELESALES AND INTERNAL SALES FUNCTION

  • Focus on using technology to bring in business/retain customers – NOT admin!
  • 18-24 month contract but company growth will see future opportunities emerge.
  • Attractive salary package including super and bonus.

Right through the COVID lockdowns we saw companies looking for new ways to connect with their existing customers, to develop new business, to educate and to retain. So many customers didn’t want to see a sales representative or account manager. Getting the product message out there, demonstrating products, understanding the customers specific need became that little bit harder. Some companies have struggled with this. Others, including our client, did not. Indeed, for many years they have used their telecommerce function as a means of connecting with their customers and even managing smaller accounts. However, as they so readily admit, there is even more to be done in this space as businesses return to work. This position has been reshaped to lead a team of telesales and internal sales staff through a transformation process that delivers high impact sales skills and revenue results. Over to you!

So, your role isn’t about having a team that just reacts to incoming calls and administers around the edge of the sales process. Indeed, it’s about leading, mentoring and motivating a young team to deliver against KPIs around revenue, forecast, call rates, quote conversions and value selling. Your team will work across multiple divisions of this global market leader, basically freeing the field sales forces to focus on customer meetings at a higher level, thereby increasing the number of touch points with the business. Part of your role will be to look for ways to make this happen into the future, looking at newer and more flexible ways to use technology and people to generate sales. It is going to be a work in progress as you lead your team towards the belief in, and internalisation of the feeling “I have a budget to meet. I have a pipeline. Here are my priorities and, if I work them, I’ll achieve my target!”

As you can see, we’re not looking for the old style Internal Sales Manager. We want a proven sales manager who is used to the sales pressures of being in the field, who understands the inherent challenges of being supported by a reactive internal sales function, and who can shape it in a brand new direction. This means being able to take a younger team (typically in their 20’s to 30) and equipping them to get results through initiatives that could include teleconferencing, on-line product demonstrations and virtual events. It’s your field sales management experience that will give you credibility with the team, showing them just how they will now be adding even more value to the growth of the business here in Australia. In our ideal world we’d be looking for a background in industrial/technical/scientific or technology products where it’s a true B2B focus.

We’re not at all concerned about your qualifications. We need to see that you have made a difference in your sales management roles, at ease with technology and knowing how to utilise it to increase the customer experience. We need to see that you are target/budget driven but capable of taking your team along for the ride and ensuring they enjoy it. It goes without saying that you’re commercially focused and understand just how valuable a CRM system is in helping manage yours and your teams sales activities and planning. It would be an added benefit if you have managed younger teams, inspiring them to try new things and reach new heights of performance. Imagination, strong comms skills at all levels, the ability to juggle conflicting priorities, instilling a sense of fun in a team – these are all attributes we’d like to see.

Although the initial appointment will be on an 18-24 month contract ( and you must be able to guarantee that period), growth in this business dictates every likelihood that other permanent roles will emerge in the organisation for a genuine high achiever.
