About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Team Leader to join the Lutheran Care team. Based in Ntaria, an Aboriginal community approximately 130kms west of Alice Springs, you’ll have oversight and delivery of a high quality, intensive home and community based family support service.

The Team Leader will ensure the IFSS program is committed to working within a bicultural model to support highly vulnerable families with children aged 0-12 years for up to 12 months.

This is a key leadership role and the duties include;

  • Leading and supervising an effective and cohesive team of Cultural Mentors, Aboriginal Family Support Workers and Case Workers.
  • Working with families with complex needs within a community setting.
  • Working within a bicultural model that facilitates engagement and respects/values others knowledge and culture.
  • Developing and sustaining collaborative and respectful family, community and relevant stakeholder relationships
  • Ensuring the quality of services delivered are of a high standard and comply with current legislation, accreditation and contractual requirements
  • Working within the values, mission and strategic direction of LC.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to hold tertiary qualifications in a social work, psychology, social services, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in case management, assessment and referral in the context of providing child-focused parenting support.

Any experience gained specifically with trauma and/or domestic violence will be highly regarded, though not essential provided you have a practical understanding of strengths-based family intervention approaches. This includes an understanding of child development and the impact of neglect or trauma on children and families, along with any current legislation related to family and child protection.

You’ll be highly respectful, with the patience to build long-term relationships with community members, and demonstrate a genuine respect for Aboriginal people. It’s crucial that you have the sensitivity to work with, and support, families with complex needs, with prior experience working alongside Indigenous families or communities an advantage.

As a hands-on and collaborative leader, you will also need to have strong networking skills, with the ability to build strategic partnerships and oversee HR and WHS initiatives. You’ll also have a good understanding of funding requirements and obligations, and be comfortable supervising, coaching, and mentoring your team.

Though experience working in remote areas is not essential, you will need the confidence and resilience to work in an undeniably challenging environment. You will need to be highly flexible and comfortable handling environmental issues, such as heat, dust or dirt.

Prior to commencement, the successful candidates will need to hold or be willing and able to obtain the following:

  • A current Driver’s License;
  • An OCHRE card; and
  • A National Criminal History Record Check.

About Ntaria

Ntaria, sometimes known as Hermannsburg, is located in Central Australia, approximately 130km west of Alice Springs. With a population of 689 residents it is an undeniably small town, but is on a popular tourist route as the gateway to many of the stunning nearby national parks and natural attractions.

With a primary school, church, supermarkets and more, the town is also a National Trust-listed historic precinct, home to a museum and the Namatjira Gallery, which displays original paintings by renowned artist Albert Namatjira, as well as works by local artists and the acclaimed Hermannsburg Potters. Ntaria is a dry community.

The road between Ntaria and Alice Springs is completely sealed making for a smooth 45 min drive between towns. Some team members choose to stay in Alice Springs over the weekend and Ntaria during the week.
