We are currently looking for a  Civil/ Structural Engineer to join our  Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) Engineering and Reliability team. As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise, risk management, standards and coordination of asset health and integrity initiatives for structural and civil assets.

As part of the wider Rio Tinto Iron Ore operations, Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Carnarvon and is hciveadquartered in Perth, Western Australia. Through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life. At our Lake MacLeod operations, we also mine and export gypsum to customers in Australia and Southeast Asia. DSL is the world’s largest exporter of seaborne salt, with capacity to produce approximately 10.3 million tonnes every year

This role is a great opportunity to be a key driver of the design and management of civil and structural assets throughout DSL. You will develop maintenance strategies and apply your specialised problem-solving skills and structural engineering knowledge to ensure the safe and cost-effective performance of DSL assets.

Reporting to the Specialist Structural and Civil Engineer you will:

  • Assist with the management of civil and structural assets including levees, culverts, drainage infrastructure, haul roads and fixed plant assets including bulk materials handling machines, conveyors and wash plants;
  • Provide technical expertise to support site operations and project delivery;
  • Identify, prioritise and control defects through the asset integrity program;
  • Assess and monitor asset condition and credible business risks, including flood management, in developing whole of life asset plans to inform long term maintenance and capital planning;
  • Support the monitoring and governance of RT major hazards including tailings, water storage facilities, slopes, stockpiles and waste dumps.

What you’ll bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Experience in the design, construction and management of civil and/ or structural assets within a mining or industrial environment
  • Experience with the development of whole of life asset plans
  • Excellent communication skills and effective stakeholder management
  • A proactive approach with a commitment in driving a safe and inclusive team culture
  • ‘C’ Class driver’s licence

Where you will be working

This position will be based in Perth at our Central Park office, working Monday to Friday. This role will include some site travel, but with the flexibility to work around your own personal & family priorities.
