Senior Diamond Geologist

Work Location: Across all sites

Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth

Reporting to the Resource Definition Superintendent, the senior geologist is responsible for the management of a diverse range of diamond drilling programs (large diameter, density, geomet, geotech plus more) and the delivery of high quality data for all stakeholders.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Adhere to Fortescue's vision and values.
  • Maintain a strong field presence to maintain the visible leadership within the team. Promoting safe work practices from contractors and FMG staff with the support of the drill safety team.
  • Plan, manage and execute diamond field and drilling activities.
  • Develop the drilling schedules to provide timely data for stakeholders.
  • Liaise with different stakeholders (site and Perth based) to ensure works are completed as efficiently as possible.
  • Coordinate the activities of the geological team and contractors in carrying out the daily work plan and ensure that their activities are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
  • Supervise logging and sampling of Diamond programs
  • Validation of data reports and geological models.
  • Manage and maintain field equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the department by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the superintendent in meeting company objectives.

Qualifications and skills required:
  • Tertiary qualification in geology.
  • Extensive experience in Resource Definition Geology in an equivalent role.
  • Experience in iron ore required. Additional experience in different commodities and industries highly regarded.
  • Solid understanding of QAQC processes and Diamond drilling.
  • Skilled in Vulcan, ArcGIS, Leapfrog and acQuire.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with contractor management and project execution.
  • Class C manual WA driver's license.
