JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced Behaviour Support Practitioner to work in the Brisbane area
38hr per week job
Key Responsibilities
-
Developing individualised strategies for individuals with disabilities and their support team by obtaining and examining information responsive to individual needs and abilities, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.

Using a person-centred intervention and conducting counselling interviews to address underlying causes of behaviours of concern, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disabilities requiring specialist behaviour support. This includes presenting alternative approaches and discussing potential for attitude and behaviour change and consulting with clients to develop behaviour plans that are developed using a Biopsychosocial approach providing a holistic understanding of the clients needs.

Developing Behaviour Support plans that contribute information, understanding and advice on the learning and behaviour of clients with special needs, and assisting parents and family members in dealing with these needs.

Working alongside key stakeholders, and the persons with disability, using a high level knowledge of psychological health problems, to ensure adequate training and psychoeducation addressing areas of concern and special needs in implementing a behaviour support plan.

Facilitating the development of evidence based culturally safe training programs, using a holistic approach and participating in the implementation and evaluation of the program with clients, family, staff and key stakeholders
About you

Hold a current Driver’s Licence (Mandatory)

Current First Aid | CPR prior to commencement

Hold a current Blue Card | Yellow Card | Criminal History Check

Have a high-level of interpersonal skills and experience supporting people in situations of high emotion
Essential Requirements

A minimum of 2 year’s work experience in provision of evidence-based treatments

Hold a Counselling Degree (Bachelor’s at Minimum)
-
Be registered with an approved governing body (e.g. ACA/PACFA)

A Current motor vehicle, driver’s License and fully Comprehensive Insurance
Advantageous
-
Previous experience in the field of Psychology will be looked upon favourably
-
A detailed understanding of the ACE’s studies
-
Demonstrate experience and flexibility to operate in an outreach setting.
Salary & Benefits
The salary is $73,000 (subject to further interviews) plus superannuation. The service also provides continuous opportunities for professional development.
