GAWB and MIWB are Statutory Authorities under the Water Act 2000 that report to the Minister for Water (Minister). They are registered water service providers responsible for the delivery of safe and reliable water and enhancing the liveability of their regions. Key functions of both Authorities include supplying water to local governments and major consumers, planning for future water infrastructure needs, administering and managing property and other assets, and ensuring compliance and reporting in line with regulatory requirements and Ministerial directions.

Each Authority has a Board consisting of five directors, including the Chair. The Board provides governance and strategic direction and is responsible for the way in which the Authority performs its functions and exercises its powers and is accountable to the Minister. This includes meeting financial and non-financial performance targets as stated in the Authority's Performance Plan.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

As a Director of an Authority you will responsible for:

  • Overseeing and reporting on the Authority's compliance with standards, legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the authority.
  • Delivery of projects to meet financial and non-financial performance targets as stated in the Authority's Performance Plan.
  • Representing the Board and Authority's interests in public forums and stakeholder meetings.
  • Communicating and engaging with community groups, government and non-government agencies and other stakeholders in an appropriate and timely way.
  • Reviewing and approving quarterly, annual and planning performance reports for the Minister in compliance with the Financial Accountability Act 2009 and Statutory Bodies Financial Arrangements Act 1982.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and respectful working relationships with other Directors, Authority staff and stakeholders.
  • Participating in, and leading, various subcommittee meetings, generally held in Gladstone (GAWB) or Mount Isa (MIWB).
To ensure that each Board has a diverse range of skills and experience, we are currently seeking interest from candidates with experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: - financial management - corporate governance and risk oversight - engineering and infrastructure - the water industry Preferred applicants will be required to undergo appropriate pre-employment checks and appointment to a Board in accordance with the provisions of the Water Act 2000 (Qld).

Applications will remain current for a period of 12 months.
