The Hospital

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) provides secondary and tertiary care to children and young people across the northern and western suburbs; specialist paediatric healthcare to the children of Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and parts of South Australia; and is the designated state-wide provider of services including paediatric trauma, rehabilitation and forensic medicine. As a quaternary centre for complex cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, the RCH cares for the sickest children from around Australia.

The Role

An opportunity exists for an experienced Grade 2 Social Worker at the Royal Children's Hospital, providing support to children, young people and their families with a range of medical and surgical issues.

The successful applicant will provide assessment and intervention to patients of RCH and their families, and be an integral member of the wider multidisciplinary team.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW and meet AASW CPE accreditation standards
  • Clinical experience recognised in closely related field of practice
  • Demonstrated capacity to respond to vulnerable children, trauma and bereavement
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and effectively articulate the social work role
  • A strong understanding of community resources and legislation relevant to children and families
  • A current driver's licence

This position also includes some out of hours work in the on-call after hours social work service to the hospital.
