We're looking for Senior Risk Specialist to join our second line risk management team, to advise and support the InfraCo executive to implement the InfraCo Risk Management Framework and Operating Model and advice and support the business to manage its material strategic and operational risks. The opportunity is a chance to join a high performing team, rapidly developing as a trusted advisor to the InfraCo and Telstra executive.

As a Senior Risk Specialist, you will be involved in providing the InfraCo executive with risk management advice and challenge to improve the effectiveness of their risk management. Through your experience in risk management and or internal audit you will form a key role in InfraCo's second line Risk and Compliance function working alongside the Risk Management Team Lead to plan and deliver the executive risk management governance forums and work alongside the business to support their management of risk within the appetite set by the Telstra board. Comfortable working with senior stakeholders, your strong report writing, and presentation skills will see you excel in the role.

As a Risk Senior Specialist, you will be responsible for…

  • Working alongside the Risk Management Team Lead to engage with the InfraCo executive to provide risk management advise and challenge the improve the effectiveness of the business's risk management.
  • Support, advise and challenge the business to understand the key underlying assumptions and risks associated with the delivery of key objectives within the Telstra / InfraCo Game Plan and their understanding of the effectiveness of the actions to achieve success.
  • Support the preparation and execution of key risk management forums and committees at the InfraCo executive and lines of business to support the management of risk.
  • Preparation of reports for an executive audience on the design and operating effectiveness of controls for the management of material operational and strategic risks.
  • Facilitation of strategic risk assessments to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Working with the executive risk owners to develop metrics and reporting to support their understanding of risk in the context of the Telstra risk appetite.
  • Developing and maintaining trusted and effective working relationships with executive stakeholders.
  • Assessment of management's actions to address risks identified through the delivery of the assurance plan.
  • Coach, educate and enable Risk and Assurance Analysts in the team and risk owners within the Business to identify, assess and manage risks to their strategy and business objectives. This includes providing 'expert advice' to the Business on risk management, compliance obligations, and ensuring that we know the right (key) risks are being managed effectively.
  • Providing risk management advice to a defined portfolio within InfraCo in line with the Risk and Compliance business partnering model.
  • HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.

To be successful in this role, you must have…

  • 5+ years' experience in a leading risk management consulting firm, or listed organisations second- or third-line function focused on advising executives stakeholders on key strategic and operational risk and the control environment.
  • Strong understanding and experience in conducting risk assessments using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment will be favourable.
  • A highly developed understanding of the "3 lines of defence" model.
  • Strong relationship management skills and personal authenticity with ability to influence executives and stakeholders to achieve complex outcomes.
  • Proven experience to communicate effectively and confidently with stakeholders, operational staff, vendors, customers and senior management
  • Proven experience to successfully manage projects in highly complex and regulated environments
  • Ability to deliver structured thinking in a variety of contexts
  • Advanced problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to multitask and navigate competing priorities while persuading Business Units to actively engage
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Strong understanding of operational challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
